Description
Blue Calcite is a natural calcium carbonate mineral recognized for its soft light-to-medium blue tones and matte, raw texture. Each piece shows subtle banding or clouded areas typical of calcite, giving the specimen a calm, uniform look.
Formation
Calcite (CaCO₃) forms through the precipitation of calcium-rich solutions in sedimentary settings and may also develop in low-temperature hydrothermal veins. The blue color comes from trace elements and microscopic inclusions incorporated during crystallization.
Function
Suitable for decorative displays, mineral collections, and educational/geological reference where natural color and texture are desired.
Care
-
Mohs hardness ~3: protect from scratches and impacts.
-
Clean with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth; avoid soaking.
-
Keep away from acids (vinegar, lemon, strong cleaners), which react with calcite.
-
Store separately from harder minerals.
